We assessed in a 4-month timeframe the improvement potentials of the steel scrap streams for a big player in the automotive industry – Schaeffler AG. Our joint goal was to support Schaeffler to take control of their scrap value. Currently, we assess 6 sites globally and apply the principles of the Circular Economy to their daily industrial operations.
Derived from the first analysis, we identified several potentials focusing on reduce, re-use, repurpose and recycle scenarios. The logical first step to unleash these potentials was to conduct a detailed Material & Information Flow Analysis in close collaboration with Schaeffler experts. By establishing harmonized data flows afterwards, we set the ground for the following interlinked projects related to the creation of closed-loop with suppliers and re-using perfect scrap.
